A.D.D. SOCIETY: THE INCONVENIENT DETAIL.

Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan says it would take too long to explain the numbers behind the tax plan that he and Mitt Romney are proposing: sounds familiar? Of course! Neither side has the time to explain anything in detail…..we want a ratings-grabbing one-liner! We now live in a world whereby detail and serious analysis are trumped by a superficial headline or sound-bite. Its so much easier to say you have a plan without detailing it. Do we live in an A.D.D. SOCIETY? We are constantly barraged with cheesy one-liners everywhere, including Real Estate ‘facts’ reporting. REBNY (The Real Estate Board of New York) just released a sensationalist e-mail stating that this decade has the worst, lowest volume of new construction of any decade……2 years into the decade, after a huge financial crisis, just as thousands of apartments are about to start construction. Average selling prices are announced as headlines, yet any form of detail is skimpy at best. So both candidates spew all sorts of promises and  ‘plans’ without any serious detail, tapping into our culture that is either too stupid or lazy (maybe both)to fully understand what exactly their plans truly deliver. Claims are made daily on every subject that are never verified by the press….even the New York Times (shocking!)appears to be printing verbatum the press releases of those developers that advertise most.  Lawyers, politicians and leaders make contracts and law so complicated that it alienates people’s ability to understand the truth or reality. Reality TV claims to be an observer of reality, yet most of it is un-officially scripted and unreal…..yet the masses believe it to be fact.

It appears superficiality, lies and sensationalism continue to win. But I am optimistic that there is a segment of the population that is sick and tired and a real change is on the horizon.
