INFORMATION CRISIS?

I want to yell it from the mountaintops. I want to yell at the top of my lungs. I have done so many times before, but it appears no-one is listening: WE SUFFER FROM REALLY, REALLY BAD INFORMATION, especially in Real Estate!

Aside from the horrifically inept, shallow and often inaccurate information we are fed through the media, I am reminded daily how dreadful the information and date is that we are supposed to use daily. Its bad, really, really bad. Not only is the information we have too selective, it is often averaged(not specific to the subject at hand) and often inaccurate. And all of this in the INFORMATION AGE, a time when we are supposed to have more access to good information than ever before? Its outrageous. And its a crisis everywhere. Whereas we believe the world is more of an open book through the web, I find that this open book has much, much more information, but so much of it is scrambled and inaccurate it is awful.

I find my role now as a real estate broker has become the editor of all this information, trying to sift through all this data in an attempt to:

  • Correct the many mistakes
  • Insert data that has been omitted
  • Rectify certain data that clients have identified because its inaccurate
  • Break down the ‘averages’ to identify number that are truly relevant.

Its not easy. Worse are the many brokers who purposefully insert inaccurate agenda-driven data. This runs everywhere from the archaic reporting all the way down to simple listing information. If you think its bad, think again: its worse than bad. And its time to do something about it!
