President Obama, when asked if Russia was the greatest threat to the USA, responded by saying he is more concerned about a nuclear explosion of sorts in New York City. Had President Bush uttered these words, everyone would have been outraged about fear-mongering: now that President Obama is saying this, I guess we should be certain that a threat of this kind is real. Regardless of who is saying this, we should all remind ourselves that we live in a very large City in a world full of crazy, hate-filled, self-righteous people, very comfortable with sacrificing their own lives for the sake of their warped cause.
While some may argue they don’t want to think of such awful things, in light of recent revelations that the security in some buildings is still bad with parachutists breaching security and jumping in the middle of the night undetected, I frankly like the idea of each and everyone of us being reminded regularly to do our part in being vigilant and aware about security. This is a big City with very lax discipline……it is at the exact moment when security and awareness lapse that bad things can happen. And they are preventable.
Federal funding to install nuclear monitoring devices around the City is about to be cut…..really? When New York sends so much more of its tax dollars than it gets back from Washington? That would be outrageous. This also makes me think about the ‘stop and frisk’ program…..maybe it was abusive in areas, but maybe these somewhat annoying programs work for the greater good.
