I cannot help but gush over this exquisite building currently under construction in the heart of West Chelsea: Its location is superb, perched aside 200 Eleventh Avenue across the street from Gagosian Gallery, between the Hudson River Park and the Highline Park, around the corner from AVENUE’S SCHOOL…..and moments from an entirely new neighborhood being built at HUDSON YARDS.

This Steven Harris-designed, limestone clad beauty has only 8 units plus a magnificent space that will ultimately house an art gallery……appropriately so, being centered in the West Chelsea Arts District. This building offers an alternative to the flashiness of so many other buildings: Its discretion and restraint come as a welcome relief. The apartments are mostly full-floor 4-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom homes with a study that provide a similar feeling and mood and room-count of a townhouse…..but all with the convenience of being on one floor. The homes feature a gracious entry gallery that separates the grand living rooms from the more intimate sleeping rooms. The finishes are in a class of their own, incorporating Herringbone Chevron-style European oak flooring, french doors surrounded by marble detailing with ornate balustrades, a wood-burning fireplace, and fluid molding details around all doors and windows.  The windowed kitchens function as both open and closed  off kitchens via disappearing pocket doors. Outfitted with a La Cornufe oven and custom cabinetry that include Brazillian Jaccaranda wood, these kitchens are amongst the most beautiful anywhere. Hardware is by P. E. Guerin.

The thought and attention to detailing included re-enforced art walls, extensive lighting, pre-wiring for shades and AV systems, humidification, etc. Nothing has been ignored. Pricing starts around $ 7million, and goes up to $ 18million for a magnificent 4,600sf duplex penthouse with memorable terraces. Another slightly smaller penthouse crowns the building for around $ 13million. Completion is expected around the end of 2014. This will certainly be a welcome addition to the West Chelsea mix of remarkable buildings including those by Jean Nouvel, Shigeru Ban, Annabelle Selldorf, Norman Foster, Neil Denari, Thomas Juul Hansen and Zaha Hadid. The  building is a collaboration between developers Adam Gordon and Tavros Capital Partners.

Of course I am a little biased as we are representing this building through URBAN COMPASS, but I am comfortable doing so knowing how strongly this building has already been received by possibly the most esthetically critical audience anywhere in the world.    www.560west24.com
